Every woman has felt the need to temporarily delay her periods at some time to take a much-anticipated vacation, attend a marriage ceremony, or participate in a significant work function. That is currently relatively easy to do, thanks to period-delaying drugs. The medicine for delaying periods helps you escape period pain on your essential days by temporarily postponing your periods. To avoid any unfavourable hazards, you must, however, be sure to speak with a qualified physician to talk about the medication process.

Progesterone Derivative – Norethindrone

According to the guidelines issued by the UK National Health Service (NHS), doctors usually recommend three norethindrone pills daily.  One must take these pills until  she is ready for periods to start.  After quitting the drug, a person’s menstruation should start again in 2–3 days.

It is crucial to understand that when someone uses norethindrone in this fashion, even though it acts like oral birth control, it does not function as a contraceptive. One will have to utilise another method of birth control, such as condoms.

How are Medicines to Postpone Periods Tablets Taken?

If you want to delay your periods, you are recommended to start taking norethisterone three times a day for three consecutive days right before the anticipated day on which your periods will begin. The following three weeks are spent taking the pills and when you discontinue them, the flow will begin again a few days afterward.

Note: It is important to take pills under medical supervision.

Symptoms and Dangers Associated with the Medicine

Norethisterone may have various adverse effects, just like any other medicine. The most frequent ones include breast discomfort, nausea, poor mood, menstrual spots (minor bleeding), acne, and menstrual acne. However, not everyone would feel them.

Yet, some women shouldn’t use norethisterone to postpone their menstruation. This includes women who are and possibly could become pregnant, have recently given birth, and are nursing. They are also inappropriate for women with breast cancer, liver tumours, or other rare medical disorders. The formation of blood clots can become more likely as per how the body processes norethisterone.

Therefore, medicine to delay periods India should not be used by women who have already had a clot in their blood and have an increased likelihood of clotting. Essentially for the same reason, it’s crucial for any woman taking medication to postpone her period to drink plenty of water and move about frequently, especially during long trips.

Do Birth Control Pills Affect Fertility?

To delay periods, long-term contraceptive medications used to postpone periods are available in 28-day dosage packs and contain dosages of oestrogen & progestin. During the initial three weeks, hormonal levels deliberately “suppress” your fertility, which delays the onset of your monthly period. It is not practical for everyone and might take a while to work.

Although you can take medications according to your preferences, timetables, and other health factors, there are also more popular options, such as extended-use contraception, IUDs, rings, injectables, and patches.

Conclusion

In India, there are medications like Norethisterone available to temporarily delay periods for various reasons. Women must consult a doctor for proper guidance and dosage. Norethisterone can be effective in postponing menstruation but is not a contraceptive. It may have side effects, and certain women should avoid using it.

While some natural methods are believed to delay periods, their efficacy is not scientifically proven. Consulting a healthcare professional is crucial for safe and appropriate period management.
