9 Steps How To Build A Skin Care Routine

A good skincare routine keeps your skin protected and nourished.  Given the number of toxins that the skin is exposed to on a daily basis, a simple and effective routine is just what you need. If you haven’t already started, here is a 9 step skincare routine that includes skin nourishing elements like collagen powder.

Step 1: Washing Your Face

Always start by cleaning your face before you start with your skincare routine. The easiest way to do this is to wash your face. Start by washing your face using a gentle cleanser. Rinse your face well so that the dirt and grime are gone. It is a good idea to choose an anti-aging cleanser with vegan collagen. You can also use micellar water or cleansing oil if there is any makeup residue on your skin. Gently dab your skin dry after cleansing before you proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Use a Toner

A toner helps even out your skin. Take a small amount on a cotton pad and smooth it over your skin.  If your skin toner has any exfoliating ingredient like glycolic acid, then you must only use it at night. Products that have hydrating ingredients or anti-aging ingredients like plant based collagen, you can use twice each day. If you plan to include retinol in your skincare routine, then avoid an exfoliating toner.

Step 3: Apply a Serum

You can use daytime or nighttime serums based on the skincare routine. Using serums that are rich in antioxidants such as Vitamin C serums is best because they keep your skin protected from any free radical damage. At night, use anti-aging collagen with plant-based collagen or any hydrating ingredient like hyaluronic acid. Skincare serums used during the day are meant to protect the skin while nighttime serums must regenerate the skin.

Step 4: Use an Eye Cream

The skin under the eye is very delicate and needs extra nourishment. If you do not have an under-eye cream, then you can use a regular moisturizer. However, dedicated under-eye creams are lighter than face creams and can be applied very easily. If you normally have puffiness in the morning, use an under-eye cream that comes with a metal ball roller. Place it in the fridge overnight before applying. To prevent this puffiness, use a hydrating under-eye cream.

Step 5: Consider Spot on Treatments

Spot on treatments are most effective when used as part of your nightly skin care routine. This is when the skin is repairing itself. These spot on treatments resolve issues like pigmentation, acne and others. While using spot on treatments make sure that you avoid mixing ingredients like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide with retinoids. It is best to use spot on treatments that also hydrate the skin  effectively.

Step 6: Moisturize Your Skin

A moisturizer is a must for a good skincare routine. It locks in moisture and prevents skin dryness. This also helps prevent issues like fine lines and wrinkles. Skin that is well moisturized also looks young and supple. Make sure you use a product that is lightweight and easy to apply. This keeps you comfortable all day long. You can even choose products with plant-based collagen to enhance its anti-aging effects. If you suffer from chronically dry skin, use a product with ingredients like hyaluronic acid. You can also use the product twice each day for the best results.

Step 7: Use an Exfoliant Like Retinol

Serums with products like retinol, a derivative of Vitamin A help reduce breakouts, dark spots, and fine lines. They help increase cell turnover as well. However, these products are not ideal for sensitive skin as they can cause irritation. You must also be careful when pairing retinol with other skincare products. These serums make your skin more sensitive. Therefore, you must use skincare with a good SPF.

Step 8: Use a Face Oil:

Using a face oil after your skincare regime is highly recommended. This ensures that the other products are protected and stay locked into your skin as oil is difficult to penetrate.

Step 8: Ensure Sun Protection

Whether you use collagen powder, serums or any other skin-protecting products, they are of no use if you do not get enough sun protection. Most of the damage caused to the skin is the result of UV damage. Use a sunscreen lotion with an SPF of at least 30 to ensure that your skin stays protected all day.

In case you do not have time on some occasions to follow all the nine steps of this skincare routine, make sure you at least cleanse, tone and moisturize your skin. Follow this up with sunscreen and you are ready to step out of the house without any worry.
