Washing Your Face

It often sounds easy to wash your face, isn’t it? You just need to soap it up and rinse. But in reality, you are probably making several mistakes while washing your face. If your skin doesn’t have that glow, you may pay more attention to how you wash your face. Your skin might suffer from excessive dryness, oiliness, or even breakouts as a result of a few improper ways of washing your face.

8 Common Face Wash Mistakes You Make

Let’s understand the common mistakes you make while washing your face and learn some effective ways to wash your face in order to avoid messing up your skin care routine.

1. Washing Your Face Too Often

Have you ever realised that washing your face too frequently might harm your skin? If you have dry skin, you only need to wash it once a day. However, if you have oily skin, you should wash it not more than twice a day. Your skin will get dry if you wash it more than twice a day and if you avoid it, then it can leave your face oily.

Do not miss washing your face daily in the morning. The morning rinse removes the excessive natural oils that build up overnight as well as any other particles that accumulated overnight. The morning skincare items that you apply, such as a good face wash or a good face cleanser, can however enter your skin if you have a fair and thin skin complexion. It is recommended to take care of what face products you use.

2. Using the Wrong Face Wash and Face Cleanser

Many people randomly use any face wash or cleanser without being mindful of the consequences. It is important for everyone to understand different skin types & what works best for their skin. Washing your face with the wrong products can be harmful to your skin.

Expert's Tip - Mistakes You Make While Washing Your Face

Using the wrong face wash can harm your facial skin and leave you with marks, spots, dots, and redness. Later, it could even lead to skin rashes and skin-related problems. One should always use dermatologist-approved face wash and face cleanser. If not organic, herbal face wash can also be used for good results. Moreover, you can also get a skin care face wash, face wash for dry skin, cleanser for dry skin, etc.

3. Exfoliating Your Face Quite Often

Even though removing dead skin cells through exfoliation is a good habit, it’s important to avoid overdoing it. Frequent exfoliation of facial skin can cause roughness and can leave rashes/blisters on your face. However, to effectively remove dead cells without irritating your skin, don’t exfoliate more than twice a week.

Never use hard products for exfoliation. It is recommended to use skincare products that contain soft and gentle ingredients for washing your face.

4. Using a Dirty Towel or Cloth for Wiping Your Face

Your face can be well cleaned with a fresh, soft towel but you should try to stick to using your hands to scrub unless you use a new towel every day. It’s ideal to replace the towel you use to dry your face every few days to keep bacteria away from attacking your face. Doing this might be challenging for some people but it is important to do so.

Always use a fresh and clean towel to wipe your face. Try changing the towel every day or keep spare towels for this purpose.

5. Using Soap-Based Cleanser for Face

Products made of soap drain the skin of its natural oils, leaving it dry, sensitive, and more prone to inflammation. Instead of this, use a non-soap cleanser. Skin is considerably healthier when a non-soap cleanser is used because it moisturises and repairs the skin.

Any bar cleanser can be used, for example, a herbal bar is a non-soap cleanser. However, before using anything that resembles soap, you should check the ingredients and the label for authenticity. Otherwise, derma-approved bars can be used as a good cleanser for dry skin, oily skin, etc. without any worry.

6. Using Excessive Hot or Cold Water

You should always wash your face with lukewarm water rather than hot water. Your skin dries out after using hot water, which can cause your glands to produce more oil than usual. If you have acne, hot water can also make you seem flushed and red.

However, using cold water has the opposite effect since it keeps your pores from opening. But excessive cold water could harm your skin texture.

7. Leftover Face Makeup and Dirt

It is important to understand the correct way of cleaning your makeup properly. The chemicals used in cosmetic products destroy the skin by slowly making it look wrinkled and prematurely aged. You must actively remove your makeup since it stays in your skin even when you wash your face.

Use a face sponge to scrub your skin thoroughly after rinsing off your face. Then dry your face with a towel. Sleeping or staying all day with makeup prevents your skin from regenerating skin cells itself.

Moreover, whenever you go out, dirt can accumulate on your face. Therefore, you must wash it as soon as you get home and wipe it off with a clean towel.

8. Neglecting Your Face Moisturiser

Many of you avoid using a moisturiser after washing your face. This is a bad practice. It is equally important to wash your face as it is to moisturise it after washing. It’s time to make a change if you often forget to apply moisturiser after a face wash.

And yes, this goes with any skin type. Applying a good moisturiser helps open skin pores, make your skin glow, and keep it healthy in the long run.

Conclusion

We often tend to wash our face using harsh soaps & chemical-filled cosmetic products and end up destroying our skin. Facial skin is one of the most delicate parts of our body and requires constant care. Our face is always exposed to dirt and pollution nowadays. The filth, cellular waste, and sebum may block your pores if you don’t wash your face regularly, which could lead to acne outbreaks and other skin infections

Therefore, it is important to wash your face in the right manner.
