The Indian Armed Forces and the Indian Police Services are two of the most reputed organisations in the country. Every year, thousands of aspiring candidates appear for the recruitment process that comprises both written and practical tests. The recruitment for these organisations is extremely strict. The candidates must be qualified for the eligibility criteria, which may include age, height, weight, and educational qualifications among others. 

The candidates who join the recruitment process for the Indian Armed Forces and Indian Police Services must go through a physical fitness test. It is necessary to know the details of the police physical test and army physical test conducted during the recruitment process. 

Army Physical Test Details 

The physical fitness test for armed forces consists of various events. A total of 100 marks is fixed for the army physical fitness test. Candidates who complete the first event of the test are the ones qualified for the other events. The following points discuss the important army physical test details: 

1. 1600 Metres Race

The candidates appearing for the 1600 metres race are awarded based on time taken to complete the race. Candidates who complete the race in 5 minutes 30 seconds are awarded 60 points for their speed and excellence. 48 points are awarded to those who complete the race between 5 minutes 31 seconds and 45 seconds. Those who complete the race after 5 minutes 46 seconds are deemed as to have failed. 

2. Pull-Ups

Marks for pull-ups are awarded according to the number of repetitions. Candidates who do 10 or more-pull ups are awarded 40 points. The points keep decreasing with the decrease in number of repetitions completed by the candidates. 

3. Long Jump and Balancing

The candidates have to qualify for a zig-zag balancing task in the army physical fitness test. The candidate must only pass this event even as no points are awarded for it. Similarly, candidates must carry a 9 foot-long jump to complete the test.  

Police Physical Fitness Test

Physical fitness test for different police departments is more or less similar in nature. The test is done to show the candidate’s physical potential necessary to perform everyday duties as a police officer. The following points discuss the important components of a police physical ability test: 

Running

Running is a key component for any police physical fitness test as it shows a candidate’s aerobatic skills. Most physical tests require the candidates to appear for a 2400-metre race. The candidate’s heart and vascular system capability is also judged during this task. 

Obstacle Course

The fitness test also includes a set of intricate and arduous obstacle tests. It may include tasks like climbing, dragging dummy weights, dodging objects, and jumping barriers among others. The obstacle course will also assess your endurance, stamina, and decision-making skills during potential barriers or obstacles faced as a police officer. 

Strength Assessment

In strength assessment, candidates are scored based on the number of repetitions that they manage to complete. A candidate may be required to perform physical activities like push-ups, sit-ups, bench presses, and burpees or squat thrusts.
